El-Kowm

El-Kowm is located in the middle of Syrian desert 200km north east from Palmyra and it is also known as one of the most important archeological sites of prehistoric age in the middle east. We met the Suisse expedetion team working at an opened site in the middle of desert. The remains of more than 300,000 years B.P. such as stone tools and animal borns are found in this area.

A small pyramid type sand hill seen on the route to El Kowm 75 km east from Palmyra near the town "As Skuhnah".
A town called "Ash Shaykh Ibarahin" in the desert between As Skuhnah and El Kowm. Due to the rich pumping well existing in the center of the town, this small town is considered to be very important in this area.
